Elena Popova started experimenting with mixing different media within the borders of the scenography context while studying Time-based design, in the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen, the Netherlands. She has worked for dance companies and created autonomous works herself. This fascination in creating new environments and characters brought her in to the study in Weissensee Art Academy in Berlin where she graduated stage and costume design in 2025.
Elena Popova is based in Berlin and works as an independent designer in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands on verious opera, dance, theatre projects and site- specific performances.
In her search for aesthetic and conceptual unity, she researches and combines the multicultural, ambivalent perceptions of the stage art and tries to create a storytelling within her stages and costumes which can support and enrich the play and the director's vision.
